Circuit Guide
The Berlin ePrix takes place on May 23 2015 and forms the eighth round of the inaugural Formula E season, and the second to take place in Europe. The 2.469km anti-clockwise layout has been designed by Rodrigo Nunes within the ‘Apron’ section of the former Tempelhof Airport, located just a short distance from Berlin city-centre. The tight, twisty circuit will see the 20 Formula E drivers tackle 17 turns over a short distance making it very challenging and a great spectacle for the fans.
Driver’s guide
Nick Heidfeld, Venturi
“It’s going to be very special racing in front of my home crowd and I’m really looking forward to it. It will be the first time for me racing on somewhere like this so it should have its own special atmosphere. It looks like it’s going to be a very twisty and challenging circuit with 17 turns in under 2.5km, and I think the fans are going to have great visibility wherever they are. Many corners are just followed by the next which also partly shows that overtaking will not be easy, on the other hand, with so many corners followed by each other it’s easier to mess up and make a small mistake and then maybe the driver behind can capitalise on this. The two longer straights will be best for overtaking and using the FanBoost. It will be crucial to get into a good rhythm to get plenty of laps in and to learn the track quickly. It will also be interesting to see how the circuit is built up as normally on a street circuit there is no run-off so and no room for mistakes but in Berlin it could be more open allowing a little more margin for error. I come from just a few kilometres from Berlin. It’s always great to go there, definitely looking forward to it. When I spoke to friends recently they were all interested in coming to Berlin and I hope there will be a lot of other fans who will come and join us for the race. ”
Destination Guide
Founded in the 13th century and famed for its historical sites, Berlin is one of Europe’s most cultural destinations and home to thousands of writers, musicians and artists making it a modern day creative hub. Every building or street has a story to tell with the city itself divided into a handful of main areas. The Mitte district is the most visited area in Berlin, followed by Charlottenburg, Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg – the latter perhaps best known for its vibrant nightlife. Either way, the charm of Berlin means there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
